"Le cinque vite di Lisetta Carmi": she is a great woman, and this is a great book!

“Accade solo ciò che deve accadere”

Chao-Hsiu Chen.

Lisetta Carmi.

"Only what has to happen, happens."
Chao-Hsiu Chen.

"Lisetta Carmi is a special woman indeed, practical and spiritual, generous and friendly, who knows exactly what she does and what she wants but is open to any possible new idea."
G.C.

Lisetta has always been a myth for me.
In the mid-seventies, when I was a student of photography, Giovanna Calvenzi, our teacher, brought for us to see "The Transvestites", her masterpiece book.
Her photographs were full of a humanity that was never seen before. It was not reportage, it was love.
More than thirty years later, Giovanna herself asked me to meet and photograph Lisetta at her home in Cisternino, Puglia, to contribute to illustrate this book, small in size but great for the love it contains.
Thus life also gave me this privilege.
Lisetta is almost ninety years old now. She says she had five lives. She says this is her last reincarnation. And I believe her.
When she speaks to me she often holds my hand, and I'm happy.
A book on Lisetta Carmi should be written.
Luckily Giovanna did.

"A photograph never existed in my head before shooting, I see what’s there, I vibrate with what’s there, I love what’s there, I get excited seeing what's there."
Lisetta Carmi

Tanto amore anche nelle tue parole.
E bellissime immagini.
